Roofer fastening architectural shingles with a nail gun

Roof replacement

Full tear-off, ice and water shield at the eaves and valleys, then Owens Corning Duration or GAF Timberline HDZ shingles. A single-family house is usually finished in one day.

Roof repair

Missing shingles, a lifted ridge cap, a cracked pipe boot, flashing that let go at the chimney. We fix the leak the same week we see it and leave the patch matching the roof.

Storm repair

After hail or wind, the crew tarps the open spots first, photographs every slope, and puts the repair in writing. Nobody goes on your roof without your permission.

Not just shingles.

The same crew handles the parts of the roof that are not the roof. Most of these get done on the same ticket as a replacement, some on their own.

  • Soffit and fascia Aluminum wrap over rotted wood, vented where the attic needs it
  • Skylight replacement Velux deck-mounted units, flashed with the kit, not caulk

  • Attic ventilation Ridge vent plus matching soffit intake, or box vents on hips
  • Flat roofs on garages Modified bitumen or TPO on detached garages and small flat sections

Started in a Berwyn garage in 2014. Still run by the guy who started it.

Marco spent eight years on other people's crews before he bought a used dump trailer and a nail gun of his own. Prairie Fox moved to the shop in Elmhurst in 2019, and the crew is now eleven roofers on two trucks, all on payroll, no day labor.

We put architectural shingles on almost every house, we do not sell a roof when a repair will hold, and the number you hear on the phone is the number on the paper.

What the neighbors say.

Marco walked the roof with my husband, sent the estimate two days later, and the crew had the whole tear-off and new roof done by five. They ran the magnet over the lawn twice.

We had a leak around the chimney that two other companies said needed a whole new roof. Prairie Fox re-flashed it for a few hundred dollars and told us the roof had five more years in it.

After the June hail they tarped us the same evening and photographed everything. The repair estimate matched the final bill to the dollar. No pressure, no surprises.

I have been on roofs since I was nineteen. The only thing I ask of a customer is to let me walk it before I price it. The only thing I promise is that the paper and the phone say the same number.

Marco Owner, Prairie Fox Roofing

Questions people ask us.

Do you need to get on my roof to give me a price?
Yes, and only with your permission. Marco asks before he sets the ladder, takes photos of every slope, and shows them to you before he leaves. If you would rather he stayed on the ground, he can measure from the ground and the photos, and the estimate will say so.
How fast is the written estimate?
Within three business days of the roof walk, by email, itemized. If you need it sooner for a closing, say so on the call and we move it up.
What happens after a storm?
Call us. If water is coming in, a crew comes out the same day or the next morning to tarp the open spots. We photograph the damage, write up the repair, and give you the photos and the estimate to use however you need to. We do not go on the roof until you say so.
How long does a re-roof take?
A single-family house with one layer of shingles takes one day with the full crew. Two layers, a steep pitch, or a lot of dormers can push it to two. We tell you which before we start, and the roof is never left open overnight.
What does the license number on this page mean?
Illinois requires anyone roofing for pay to hold a state roofing contractor license. The Unlimited class covers residential, commercial and industrial roofs. Our number is 104.000000, a demo number on this sample site, and a real one can be checked on the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation license lookup.
